Hypnotherapy is a wonderful safe technique, that has been used to facilitate change from many issues.

The hypnotherapist will guide you to a natural state of awareness, where positive and beneficial suggestions can replace negative programming in your subconscious mind. Though you may not be aware of it, constant negative self talk can change your subconscious programming and create a very real negative reality.

Your subconscious mind works in the back ground, working your life support systems and the storing of your experiences. It only wants to help you, however trauma, unpleasant experiences , negative self talk etc, imprint themselves in your subconscious mind. In many countries it’s use in surgical theatres and dental practices is common place, as it is safe and promotes a faster recovery from surgical procedures. Hypnosis or altered states of consciousness are widely used around the world to heal oneself and others, also known as meditation, self hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis, is a natural process. When you daydream, you go into a trance like state. The mind regularly phases in and out of mini trances , known as Ultradian Rhythms every 60-120 minutes, throughout the day, in order to interpret the information that it is constantly receiving from various sensory modalities. These being your visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory systems.

Contrary to popular belief you are in control in hypnosis and the stage hypnotist  show, for example, is an illusion of control. You cannot be made to do anything out of your moral belief system. You can reject any suggestion and even lie in hypnosis. Your deepest darkest secrets are always safe. Think about it, your local hypnotherapist, would not need to be paid for their clinical sessions or to cook and clean their  houses, they could simply hypnosis their clients to hand over all their savings, cook and clean for them.

As the hypnotist cannot make you do anything against your will, Any such negative suggestions are rejected by your subconscious mind. The unprofessional hypnotist goes out of business, and any thoughts of mind control or world domination, are left in the realm’s of fantasy. The hypnotist is the person that guides you into a natural state of altered consciousness, where your mind is able to accept positive suggestions for the change that you desire.

In hypnosis you are aware of what is going on around you, and you feel wonderfully relaxed. You can never get stuck in hypnosis, as you can choose to come out of the relaxed state at any time that you wish. The worst that can happen, is that you go from hypnosis to sleep. Hypnosis is undertaken primarily within the Alpha and Theta brain wave states…Beta being the waking state and Delta being asleep. It is worth knowing that Delta can be used for hypnotherapy, when a person is conditioned into entering Theta from Delta while asleep.

Hypnosis is the facilitation of the trance state. While Hypnotherapy is similar, except that therapeutic methods are used in hypnosis to achieve a change in behaviour or other desired therapeutic outcome. Meditation is also hypnosis without suggestions and guided meditation Cd’s are a disguised form of hypnosis. In that hypnosis is not mentioned.

In order to understand hypnosis and how it works on the mind, it is worth discussing the left and right hemispheres of our brain.

The left part of our brain is the conscious mind and the right part is the subconscious mind.

The conscious mind or left brain, is the analytical part of our mind.

It responds to immediate occurrences in our environment. It initiates the flight or fight response to perceived or actual danger. It is your will power, your short term memory. It is very limited in its abilities, in that it can only deal with seven plus or minus two bits of information at once. Basically if you try to do more than this, your conscious mind gets confused and overloads and goes into a trance like state.

The conscious mind is logical. It wants to know the reason why. It is very protective and allows very little to affect your minds built in internal processes and behaviour patterns… Despite its protective nature when you repeatedly put yourself down, with constant negative self talk. Such thoughts eventually gets through into your subconscious mind, where it becomes a bad habit and becomes true for you.

Thankfully, getting a negative suggestion into the subconscious, where it becomes a reality or permanent process is not easy. The same can be said for positive goals. That’s why it is so difficult to change a habit or by will power alone.

The subconscious mind or right brain

is on the other hand, all that you are and ever will be. It can process millions of pieces of information at any given time. It stores away everything that you ever saw, heard, felt, tasted, or smelt. Your subconscious mind is  the storehouse of your life’s learned behaviours, ideas and beliefs. Even past lives are believed to be part of this incredible store house of information. The subconscious is keeping you alive as I speak, regulating and monitoring your bodies life support systems.

It is he centre of your imagination, your habits, behaviour patterns, beliefs and long term memory and much more that science currently knows. The subconscious part of your mind is literal and instigates any new behaviours or beliefs, that get past the critical factor of the conscious mind, good or bad. Therefore it is so important that you constantly reinforce positive thoughts and behaviours throughout every part of the day. You do become what you think, so be positive. Believe in yourself and your subconscious will reward you with the life that you actually want.

This is where hypnosis comes in, as you can change old negative ideas and behaviours and replace them with new ones that are beneficial to you. By-passing the conscious minds over protective nature. The subconscious mind tends to accept the suggestion that has the most energy associated with it. Unfortunately we give so much energy to negative suggestion that the subconscious thinks that is what you want and makes it a new behaviour over time…in the mistaken belief that it is what you want.

So it is vitally important, that you give even more energy to your goals, needs wants and desires, ensuring that your subconscious mind uses its internal resources to install your positive outcomes. This will ensure that your mind become attuned into a positive resourceful state, where a healthy life style becomes your reality.
